Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) has a rich history, starting as the Dar-es-Salaam Medical School in 1963. It evolved into the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Dar-es-Salaam in 1968 and later merged with Muhimbili Hospital in 1977 to form the Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC). In 1991, the Faculty of Medicine separated from Muhimbili Hospital and became the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS) through Parliament Act No. 9 of 1991. MUCHS expanded significantly, enhancing student enrollment and academic programs. In 2007, MUHAS was established under the Universities Act No. 7 of 2005, replacing MUCHS and continuing its legacy in health education and research.
