The Executive Director of the Tanga City Council has received approval for new employment for the 2023/2024 fiscal year from the Secretary-General of the President’s Office, Public Service Management, and Good Governance, with Ref. No. FA.97/288/01/09 dated 25/06/2024. Therefore, all qualified Tanzanians are invited to apply for the following positions:

1. Street Executive Grade III – 6 Positions

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Chief Executive of the Street;
  2. Coordinator and supervisor of participatory planning for street development plans;
  3. Advisor to the Street Committee on development plans within the street;
  4. Supervisor of the implementation of bylaws and other applicable laws in the street;
  5. Advisor to the Street Committee on security and safety issues;
  6. Supervisor of various strategies related to hunger and poverty eradication in the street;
  7. Supervise the collection of council revenues and maintain records of all taxpayers;
  8. Prepare and maintain a register of all residents in the street;
  9. Responsible to the Ward Executive Officer.

Qualifications:

Form IV/VI education with a Certificate (NTA Level 5) in Administration, Law, Sociology, Finance Management, Community Development, or Social Science from any government-recognized institution.

Salary Scale: Based on the government salary scales, i.e., TGS C.

2. Driver Grade II – 5 Positions

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Inspect the vehicle before and after the journey to determine its safety condition;
  2. Transport staff to various work-related destinations;
  3. Perform minor vehicle repairs;
  4. Collect and distribute various documents;
  5. Fill in and maintain travel information in the travel logbook;
  6. Clean the vehicle;
  7. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Form IV or VI education.
  • Class C or E driver’s license with at least one year of driving experience without causing an accident.
  • Basic driving course attendance from a government-recognized institution.

Salary Scale: Based on the government salary scales, i.e., TGS B.

3. Community Development Assistant Grade II – 1 Position

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in planning and implementing development projects in their area;
  2. Facilitate and provide training on development issues in their area;
  3. Provide education on self-employment activities in their area;
  4. Participate in implementing development activities;
  5. Prepare and submit monthly community development reports to the village leadership and their supervisor;
  6. Assist in forming community and development groups;
  7. Identify and enable poor households to improve their economy through available opportunities and resources;
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with a Certificate in Community Development from Community Development colleges or other government-recognized institutions in any of the following fields: Community Development, Sociology, Development Studies, Project Planning and Management, Gender and Development, Rural Development, or other related fields.

Salary Scale: Based on the government salary scales, i.e., TGS B.

General Conditions for Applicants:

All applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged 18 to 45 years, except for those already in government service. Applicants with disabilities are encouraged to apply and should specify their disabilities in the application system for information to the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat All applicants should attach a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) with a working address, reachable phone numbers, and an email address, along with three reliable referees.

Applicants who are already public servants and have obtained qualifications for a different cadre should have their application letters endorsed by their current employers. All applications should be accompanied by verified educational and professional certificates, including Form IV and VI certificates, and certificates from various training as per the job requirements. Testimonials, provisional results, statements of results, and Form IV and VI results slips will not be accepted.

Applicants with foreign certificates must have their certificates verified by the relevant authorities (TCU, NECTA, and NACTE). Retired public servants are not allowed to apply unless they have permission from the Chief Secretary. Applicants who are already employed in entry positions in the public service should not apply and should adhere to Circular No. CAC.45/257/01/D/140 dated 30th November 2010. Submission of false information and qualifications will lead to legal action. The deadline for submitting job applications is 7th August 2024.
