As Maliasili continues to evolve, we aim to expand our portfolio, investments, and impacts. To support this growth, we are seeking a Portfolio Associate based in East Africa.

1. Portfolio Associate (East Africa)

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Portfolio Associate will support the organizational development of our partners, working closely with Portfolio Managers. This position will primarily focus on partners in Tanzania, with opportunities to assist in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. The role will involve regular travel.

The Portfolio Associate will collaborate with Portfolio Managers and/or the Senior Portfolio Manager, developing their skills in the following areas:

  • Building trusted relationships with partner organizations, providing thought partnership and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Diagnosing and developing joint plans with partners to address major organizational development needs and priorities.
  • Supporting partner service delivery in areas such as strategy development, work plan design, strategic fundraising, financial management, and human resource management.
  • Developing ongoing organizational development expertise and staying at the cutting edge of organizational development, social enterprise, and community-based conservation.
  • Assisting in Maliasili’s efforts, including strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and analyzing reports, papers, and data relevant to our partners and their ecosystems.
  • Designing meeting agendas and facilitation plans.
  • Taking notes and analyzing outputs from meetings and workshops.
  • Compiling reports, designing presentations, and editing documents.
  • Organizing event logistics.

Reporting and Supervision:

The Portfolio Associate will report to the Senior Portfolio Manager – East Africa, based in Tanzania.

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Strong interest in organizational or enterprise development, with a passion for building effective, high-performing organizations.
  • Strong organizational diagnostic and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly understand and design solutions to problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in communication, relationship management, and teamwork.
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple processes, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to dynamic environments with a sense of humor.
  • Passion for Maliasili’s mission to enhance organizational excellence and impact in African natural resource management and conservation organizations.
  • Interest in and understanding of key issues in natural resource management, rural development, and land tenure in East and Southern Africa.
  • A team player who can work independently with minimal supervision, while also enjoying collaborative teamwork.
  • A driven individual eager to learn and enjoys a good laugh.
  • Ability to travel at least 25% of the time.

Location:

  • Flexible location in Tanzania with easy access to an international airport.
