BRAC Enterprises Tanzania Limited (BETL) is a registered private company in Tanzania operating as a social enterprise. BETL is currently piloting a cross-subsidy business model for Early Childhood Development (ECD) to improve the development of 3-5-year-old children in Tanzania. Through this initiative, BRAC aims to catalyze the ECD private sector in Tanzania by developing a sustainable business model that provides low-cost, high-quality, and scalable play-based ECD programs. The BETL team has recently opened five schools and is preparing to launch a mobile ECD program in Dar es Salaam.

Caregiver Assistant at BRAC Enterprises (BETL)

BRAC in Tanzania is seeking applications from competent, dynamic, and self-motivated individuals to fill the following position:

Position: Caregiver Assistant
Location: Dar es Salaam
Employment Type: Contractual
Salary: Negotiable

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Child Caregiver Assistant to provide nurturing care and support to children in our center. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and engaging children in age-appropriate activities, maintaining a safe and clean environment, assisting with meal times, and helping children with basic tasks. You will collaborate with the Head/Lead Caregiver or teachers to create a stimulating and educational atmosphere that promotes social, emotional, and cognitive development in children. Compassion, patience, and a genuine interest in the well-being of children are key attributes for this role.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECD).

Key Responsibilities:

Provide care for children aged three to five years. Follow lesson plans provided by the Head Caregiver to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience. Manage the classroom effectively to facilitate play-based learning activities that support physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and language development, in line with BRAC’s curriculum.

Encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment. Utilize available resources effectively to deliver an educationally sound program. Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of individual children, considering their interests, functional needs, talents, and learning styles.

Ensure children are learning positive behaviors and provide guidance or approved discipline as needed. Prepare children for pre-primary education. Provide updates to parents on children’s behavior and progress and answer parent inquiries. Comfort children who are homesick or upset. Supervise children inside and outside the classroom, ensuring their safety at all times. Observe and monitor learning through play and other activities.

Required Skills and Competencies:

Strong soft skills including teamwork, communication, and flexibility. Patience, compassion, and attentiveness. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively. Excellent listening skills and ability to communicate with young children. Ability to respond quickly and effectively in a crisis.

Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency procedures. Creative and innovative thinking for facilitating activities. Strong interpersonal skills. Physical and mental stamina required to oversee young children.
