Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) is an autonomous institute established through an Act of Parliament No. 7 of 1996. Its primary objective is to provide services in Orthopedics, Traumatology, and Neurosurgery. Additionally, MOI offers research and training to enhance service delivery within the community.
MOI has received authorization to implement new hires for the 2023/2024 financial year, as per the permit from the Permanent Secretary of the President’s Office, Public Service Management, Ref. No. FA.97/288/01/09, dated 25th June 2024. The Executive Director invites applications from suitably qualified and interested Tanzanians for the following positions:
1. Nurse II – 01 Post
Duties and Responsibilities Provide general nursing care to patients. Administer drugs and treatments as prescribed by doctors. Assist in data collection and report preparation on work performance. Counsel patients. Educate patients on health issues. Participate in adherence and proper handling of DDA care. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Holder of Secondary Certificate plus Certificate in Nursing, Midwifery, or equivalent from recognized institutions.
- Must be enrolled by the Tanzania Nurses and Midwifery Council.
Remuneration: Attractive remuneration package according to the Institute’s Salary Scale PMGSS 2/1.
2. Physiotherapist II – 06 Posts
Duties and Responsibilities: Assess and treat patients using physiotherapy techniques. Maintain patient records. Ensure proper upkeep of equipment in the unit. Adhere to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Holder of a Diploma in Physiotherapy or equivalent from recognized institutions.
- Must be registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika.

3. Orthopedic Technologist II – 01 Post
Duties and Responsibilities: Advise patients and doctors on technological issues. Maintain patient records. Make casts and take measurements as instructed. Fabricate related appliances. Fit patients and modify defective appliances under supervision. Examine patients before treatment. Advise patients on using and maintaining artificial limbs and body support devices. Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Holder of a Diploma in Orthotics, Prosthetics, or equivalent from recognized institutions.

4. Orthotist/Prosthetist II – 01 Post
Duties and Responsibilities: Make casts and take measurements as instructed. Fabricate related appliances. Fit patients and modify defective appliances under supervision. Advise patients on using and maintaining artificial limbs and body support devices. Repair prostheses or orthotics. Prepare and ensure availability of materials for making appliances. Assist in research on artificial limbs and fabrication. Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Orthotics, Prosthetics, or equivalent from recognized institutions.
- Must be registered by the Medical Council of Tanganyika.

5. Radiology Scientist II – 02 Posts
Duties and Responsibilities: Perform various x-ray examinations. Maintain radiology equipment. Ensure the quality of x-rays. Maintain patient x-rays for interpretation and results by older people. Supervise and train junior staff. Participate in ward rounds and clinical meetings. Advise on appropriate levels of amputations and appliance prescriptions.
Ensure safe custody of unit equipment. Provide high-quality prosthetic and orthotic services. Design, fabricate, and fit orthopedic appliances. Maintain x-ray equipment and sterilize radiology instruments. Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography, X-ray Technology, Radiology, Medical Imaging, or equivalent from recognized institutions.
- Must be registered by the Medical Radiology and Imaging Professional Council.

6. Shoe Maker II – 01 Post
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Make orthopedic boots and adjust shoes under senior supervision. Prepare materials for shoemaking. Advise and train patients on using orthopedic boots and arch supports. Maintain records of orthopedic boot users. Assist senior staff in equipment repair. Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Holder of Secondary Certificate plus Trade Test III in shoemaking or equivalent from recognized institutions.
