About YOUTH WINGS (YW) – Tanzania:

The organization operates nationally and is involved in public health, mental health, human rights, gender equality, governance, and community economic empowerment. YW is currently implementing the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project in the Arusha region, a project funded by PEPFAR and USAID aimed at controlling the HIV epidemic.

Job Overview:

YOUTH WINGS is seeking a Data Officer (DO) to join the EpiC project team. This full-time role is an opportunity to contribute to the quality management of data that will support vital HIV/AIDS interventions across Arusha. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring data integrity and will work closely with data clerks, peer educators, healthcare providers, and the Data Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection: Develop and maintain state-of-the-art data collection tools that align with the organization’s standards for quality and knowledge management. Data Support: Provide daily assistance to healthcare providers, peer educators, and navigators to ensure timely and accurate data entry, both paper-based and electronic.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Conduct regular data checks and analysis using statistical techniques to identify and address data quality issues. Reporting: Assist the Data Manager in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports on program performance, providing insights for improved strategy implementation.
  • Technical Assistance: Offer training to healthcare workers and peers on data collection, reporting tools, and indicator definitions. Site Visits: Conduct routine visits to project sites to evaluate data quality standards and address any challenges. Data Security: Manage backup systems and ensure data integrity within project databases.
  • Data Standardization: assist in data cleaning, triangulation, and standardization according to organizational guidelines. Documentation: Document lessons learned and best practices to contribute to program improvements. Stock Management: Ensure adequate stock and distribution of data collection tools and materials to facilitate smooth operations.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Health Informatics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Technical Skills: Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools such as SPSS, R, Excel, Power BI, GIS, and familiarity with HIV-related data systems like DHIS, CTC2 Database, INFOLINK, and DATIM.

Experience: At least 3-5 years in data management, particularly within HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment settings. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate with diverse teams, including healthcare workers, peer educators, and stakeholders.

Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills related to data systems and performance issues. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Swahili. Fundraising Knowledge: Familiarity with grant writing and resource mobilization is an added advantage.
