The Bank of Tanzania established the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2009 and offers ten fully funded scholarships for the 2024/2025 academic year. The Fund primarily supports female students excelling in Science and Mathematics, and also sponsors male and female Tanzanians for undergraduate studies in Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting, and Finance. Additionally, it supports both male and female students pursuing master’s degree programs in these fields.

BOT Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Details

The scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and a rigorous selection process. Successful applicants receive full scholarships covering all university direct costs (tuition fees, etc.) and student direct costs (meals, accommodation, book and stationery allowance, field practical training, special faculty requirements, etc.), including a brand-new laptop computer.

Scholarship Categories

1. Undergraduate Scholarships (Seven Scholarships)

We grant undergraduate scholarships to top performers in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (ACSEE) for pursuing undergraduate degree programs in two categories:

Category A: Science and Mathematics Studies (Female Students Only)

Firstly, the applicant must be a female Tanzanian citizen who has completed Advanced Level Secondary School Education (ACSEE) in 2024. Additionally, the applicant must have outstanding academic achievement (Division One) in Science or Mathematics subjects in the 2024 ACSEE. Moreover, the applicant must apply for or gain admission to a full-time bachelor’s degree program in Science or Mathematics at an accredited university in Tanzania, starting in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Category B: Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, Economics, Accounting, and Finance Studies (Male and Female Students)

Similarly, the applicant must be a male or female Tanzanian citizen who has completed Advanced Level Secondary School Education in 2024. Furthermore, the applicant must have outstanding academic achievement (Division One) in Science, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, or Accounting subjects in the 2024 ACSEE. The applicant must apply for or gain admission to a full-time bachelor’s degree program in Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting, or Finance at an accredited university in Tanzania, starting in the 2024/2025 academic year.

2. Master’s Degree Programs (Three Scholarships)

The master’s degree scholarships are open to both female and male students enrolling in master’s degree programs in Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting, and Finance.

Requirements:

  • To begin with, the applicant must be a Tanzanian citizen not older than thirty-five (35) years of age.
  • Furthermore, the applicant must have obtained First Class or Upper Second Class (honours) in the bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 4.0 from an accredited university in Tanzania.
  • Additionally, the applicant must have completed a bachelor’s degree in Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Lastly, the applicant must have applied for or been admitted to a full-time master’s degree program in Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting, or Finance at an accredited university in Tanzania, commencing in the 2024/2025 academic year.

You can also obtain printed forms from the Fund Administrator at the Bank of Tanzania Sub Head Office, 2 Mirambo Street, 11884, Dar es Salaam, or at the Bank of Tanzania Head Office in Dodoma, and Branch Offices in Arusha, Zanzibar, Mwanza, Mbeya, and Mtwara.
