Job Title: Media Development Manager
Location: Tanzania (with regular travel around Tanzania)
Reports to: Country Director
Duration: 6 months (with possible extension)

Overall Purpose of Job:
Reporting to the Country Director, the Media Development Manager will sustain and grow BBC Media Action Tanzania’s capacity strengthening portfolio. This role involves building and retaining relationships with broadcasters, local and national radio station partners, media-development/media-for-development partners, and relevant government bodies. As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the Media Development Manager will also support the organisation’s overall strategic direction, business development, and external brand building.
Main Duties and Accountabilities:
- Lead the media development portfolio of BBC Media Action in Tanzania.
- Develop and implement a partnerships strategy considering the needs of the capacity strengthening, production, and project teams.
- Support mentors and trainers to deliver impactful media development interventions.
- Maintain and develop relationships with media partners, NGOs, CSOs, social enterprises, and government bodies.
- Monitor media sector trends and advise the organisation on adapting to retain relevancy and effectiveness.
- Line-manage senior capacity-building team members and develop a strategy for capacity-building activities.
- Manage capacity strengthening and partnerships budgets in line with donor requirements and organisational policies.
- Ensure Safeguarding, Child Protection, and other relevant policies are integrated into partnerships and capacity-building work.
- Comply with BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy, staff code of conduct, and financial policies.
- Participate in relevant mandatory training on safeguarding and respect at work.
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in social science or a closely related field.
- Proven ability to forge effective working relationships with media-house managers, editors, NGOs, CSOs, and government staff.
- Proven track record of working with media and communications to achieve development goals.
- Proven senior management experience in a development context, preferably in Tanzania.
- Experience of managing teams of at least four staff.
- Strong financial management skills with experience managing budgets of over £250,000 per year.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively with conflicting deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent written and spoken Kiswahili and English.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Knowledge of regional and international current affairs.
- Experience with editorial guidelines.
- Experience in governance, health, resilience, and humanitarian assistance sectors.
- Existing relationships with media-development/media-for-development organisations and relevant Tanzanian government ministries.
- Experience working in or with networks of organisations.
