BRAC, one of the world’s largest non-formal education providers, has been revolutionizing the field of education for over 30 years in Bangladesh and globally since 2002. Through its extensive programs, BRAC operates a global pre-primary school initiative across Bangladesh, Tanzania, and Uganda. Additionally, BRAC has spearheaded early childhood development (ECD) markets for children aged 3 to 5 years through its “Play Labs” project in these regions.

In Tanzania, this project encompasses 30 play labs in collaboration with the Tanzanian Government, funded by the prestigious Yidan Prize. These Play Labs offer play-based learning, nurturing the early development of children in underprivileged communities. Moreover, BRAC Enterprises Tanzania Limited (BETL) is a registered social enterprise working to pilot a cross-subsidy business model aimed at improving ECD services in Tanzania. BETL recently launched five schools and is preparing to roll out a mobile ECD program in Dar es Salaam.

BRAC Tanzania is now seeking applications for the position of Procurement Intern in Dar es Salaam to support its ongoing mission.

As a Procurement Intern, you will play a critical role in supporting BRAC Enterprises Tanzania’s procurement and logistics activities. This includes ensuring the efficient utilization of resources while adhering to BRAC’s Procurement Guidelines and Procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Processes: Manage procurement activities including acquiring assets, goods, services, and consultancies for the project. Quality Control: Monitor all procurement activities for quality control, specification compliance, and timely delivery to end users.

Bidding and Fairness: Ensure transparency in bidding processes, fostering competition and securing the best value for money. Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all procurement activities and generate monthly reports. Supplier Invoices: Verify invoices submitted by suppliers and forward them to the Finance Department for payment.

Supplier Database: Lead the process of prequalifying suppliers and maintaining an updated supplier database. Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities comply with BRAC’s standards, policies, and local statutory regulations.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

BRAC is deeply committed to the safeguarding of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Understand, practice, and promote safeguarding policies and standards.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case of any incident, encouraging others to do the same.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Procurement Management, Logistics and Supply, Operations Management, Planning, or Engineering from a reputable institution.
  • Skills:
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Analytical skills to resolve logistical issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication abilities.
  • Integrity, honesty, and a high level of professionalism.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
