Job Title: Deputy IT Support Officer (DTSO) AO (14/24 DAR)

The British High Commission in Tanzania represents the United Kingdom’s interests in Tanzania and maintains diplomatic relations between the two countries. As an integral part of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), we work to promote British interests in Tanzania, including political, economic, and cultural ties.

The Deputy IT Support Officer (DTSO) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the British High Commission’s IT systems and providing technical support to staff. Working under the guidance of the IT Support Officer, the DTSO will assist in managing the day-to-day IT operations, troubleshooting technical issues, and maintaining IT infrastructure to facilitate the efficient operation of the mission.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Support: Provide first-line technical support to users, addressing IT-related issues promptly and effectively.
  2. Hardware and Software Maintenance: Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and peripherals.
  3. Network Administration: Support in the management and monitoring of the local area network (LAN), including troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
  4. IT Security: Assist in implementing and maintaining IT security measures, including antivirus software, firewalls, and access controls.
  5. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of IT assets, software licenses, and technical documentation.
  6. Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to staff on the use of IT systems and best practices for IT security.
  7. Procurement: Assist in the procurement of IT equipment and services, including researching suppliers and obtaining quotes.
  8. Collaboration: Work closely with the IT Support Officer and other colleagues to ensure the smooth operation of IT systems and services.
  9. Ad Hoc Duties: Undertake any other IT-related tasks as assigned by the IT Support Officer or management.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Previous experience in providing IT support in a professional environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office 365 applications.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to providing high-quality customer service.
