CARE is a prominent global organization focused on alleviating poverty and addressing social injustice, with a special focus on empowering women and girls to uplift their communities. CARE collaborates with the Government of Tanzania, both on the mainland and in Zanzibar, and other partners to transform communities, ensuring financial independence, health and nutrition, and climate-resilient development, particularly for women and girls.

CARE Tanzania is looking to hire a Finance Intern to support daily accounting and grants activities and provide essential financial assistance. The Finance Intern will directly report to the Financial Analyst and will be based in Dar es Salaam.

OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP

  • Verify supporting documents and entries in the PS system to ensure accuracy and correct use of account codes before budget holders approve transactions.
  • Examine non-Purchase Order payments for compliance and completeness of supporting documents.
  • Follow up with relevant personnel to ensure timely resolution of outstanding payables and receivables.
  • Thoroughly review financial documents for accuracy, compliance with national, CARE, and donor policies, and arithmetic precision before processing payments.
  • Ensure proper filing and management of financial documents, including stamping “PAID” on paid documents before secure filing.
  • Process prepaid expenses and accruals with correct coding.
  • Handle liquidations from staff and sub-grantees ensuring correct application.
  • Ensure project documentation and financial transactions, including those of partners, comply with donor and CARE policies and legal requirements, and are well-filed.
  • Provide necessary support during audits and respond to audit queries while following up on audit recommendations.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint) and accounting software.
  • Self-driven with good organizational and management skills, capable of prioritizing workloads.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, demands, and deadlines with a positive, constructive attitude and minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
