The SHEQ Specialist at DHL Group Tanzania will be responsible for implementing, managing, and monitoring health, safety, environment, and quality standards across all operations. This role ensures compliance with local and international regulations, promotes a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and supports the company’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.

Job Purpose

To create and enforce Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) standards, ensuring the company adheres to current health, safety, and environmental laws, recognized codes of practice, and guidelines related to employment and service delivery. Utilize expertise and abilities to foster a positive QHSE culture, crucial for managing occupational hazards that often affect productivity. Work proactively with managers to create and maintain a risk-free setting for staff and clients. Aid in the planning, evaluation, and review of the Business Continuity Management process to ensure minimal disruption to the company’s vital functions.

Key Accountabilities

Health & Safety Management System

  • Plan, oversee execution, perform evaluations, and reviews.
  • Perform site and task inspections.

Environmental Management

  • Assist management in creating programs for recycling, reducing pollution, and preventing pollution.
  • Lead the rollout of the Group Environmental Management System.
  • Manage all aspects of the environmental program (pollution reduction, waste management, environmental health, and employee involvement).
  • Oversee corporate social responsibility environmental initiatives and actions.

Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment Improvement

  • Develop, enforce, and assess QHSE Improvement Action Plans.
  • Guide and support Line Managers in implementing QHSE systems and procedures, ensuring consistent accident/incident reporting.
  • Offer expertise in creating and revising risk assessments.

Accident/Incident Management

  • Examine or help in examining the causes and circumstances of accidents/incidents.
  • Implement steps to prevent recurrence, maintaining written records of investigations and actions taken.
  • Ensure precise and prompt recording of incidents, accidents, and near misses.

Operational Excellence and Business Continuity

  • Ensure prompt capture of Operational Excellence performance metrics.
  • Assist managers in creating and implementing effective Business Continuity Plans to minimize disruptions to key functions.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and review Business Continuity Plans.

Communication and Leadership

  • Ensure consistent implementation of the company’s QHSE policies and procedures.
  • Ensure QHSE KPIs are achieved or surpassed.
  • Communicate QHSE and BCM expectations to team members and stakeholders clearly and promptly.
  • Offer expertise in QHSE aspects in the design and installation of facilities to reduce operational risks.
  • Support managers in maintaining safe work practices and implementing best practices, offering specialized advice, coaching, and practical support.

Qualifications

  • University degree.
  • ISO 9001:2000 Management and Internal Audit Training.
  • Health & Safety Certification.
  • 3 years of managerial experience.
