Position Overview: Senior Protection Engineer
The Senior Protection Engineer will play a critical role in the design, specification, and development of protection systems within high-voltage (HV) power networks. The individual will be responsible for secondary system designs, protection system development, and providing engineering expertise to meet business goals. The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of substation automation and control systems, along with extensive experience in protection system technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design: Conceptualize and develop secondary system designs for substation automation and control systems, focusing on HV network assets. Protection Systems: Design and apply protection systems, evaluate devices, and develop standards for secondary systems. Device Evaluation: Ensure protection systems are properly evaluated and applied across multiple HV power network assets.
Standards Development: Maintain and develop secondary system design standards, both standard and non-standard. Equipment Specification: Provide operation instructions for protection equipment used in design, construction, and maintenance phases. Protection Setting Calculation: Review and calculate protection control settings, configurations, and commissioning procedures for various protection types.
Compliance: Ensure new and existing protection system designs meet compliance standards and recommend necessary changes. Innovation & Improvement: Foster innovation in technical design and contribute to the continuous improvement culture within the organization. Technical Support: Provide expert advice to JVACEE and other internal groups regarding protection systems. Project Management: Plan and deliver engineering projects, including risk assessments and network security compliance, while adhering to relevant regulations.
Job Requirements:
- Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (essential).
- Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive working experience.
- Proven experience with medium voltage and low voltage switchgear testing and commissioning (essential).
- Prior experience with ABB protection relays (overhead transmission lines, transformers, generators) is essential.
- Experience in power transformer testing is required.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong technical background in protection system design, substation automation, and control systems.
- Expertise in calculating protection settings and conducting testing and commissioning.
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness to work outside regular hours, if necessary.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a focus on continuous improvement.
