- Individuals currently serving in active military duty or working as civilian personnel for the military are not eligible for this scholarship.

- Applicants for this scholarship must not have previously received a MEXT scholarship unless they possess more than 3 years of educational or research experience after the final disbursement of the previous MEXT scholarship.
- Applicants cannot simultaneously apply for another MEXT scholarship.

- Recipients must hold a “student” visa status while in Japan.
- English Proficiency Test scores taken on or after March 22, 2022, are valid for application.
