The Ministry of Agriculture has partnered with Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) to implement the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) program. Ministry of Agriculture 2000 Vacancies September 2024, This initiative aims to engage youth in agriculture through various strategies and projects within the crop value chain. The program targets the creation of 20,000 job opportunities for youth and women through skill development (internships), the establishment of 12,000 economic activities at the village level, and the development of large-scale farms (Block farms) by 2030.

As part of the strategy to enhance extension services in the country, the Ministry of Agriculture is launching a special extension service program through the BBT Agricultural Extension Entrepreneurship Scheme (BBT-AEES). This program will provide 2,000 positions for agricultural graduates to offer extension services in cotton production on a temporary employment basis. The positions are divided into two categories:

1. Agricultural Officer (1000 Positions)

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert advice to farmers and stakeholders in the cotton value chain, including: Educating farmers on best practices for cotton cultivation from land preparation to storage. Supervising and ensuring the quality of cotton from the farm to storage. Monitoring compliance with good cotton farming practices.

Preparing and delivering weekly agricultural reports for the area. Coordinating input requirements and ensuring their delivery to farmers. Register farmers and stakeholders in the digital system. Conduct training and manage farmer groups.

Establish demonstration farms and field schools. Connect agricultural sector stakeholders with farmers to access their services. Maintain records of services provided to farmers. Collect, prepare, and process production data using the Agricultural Routine Data System (ARDS).

Qualifications:

  • Tanzanian citizen with integrity, dedication, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Degree in Agricultural Sciences, Agronomy, or Crop Production from a government-recognized institution.
  • Not currently employed or dismissed from public service.
  • No criminal record.
  • Willing to work in various rural areas.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willing to work on a contract basis with a monthly stipend as specified in the contract.
  • Aged between 18 and 40 years.
  • Willing to sign a performance agreement contract for the season.
  • Experience in cotton production or participation in skill development training (internship) is an advantage.

2. Assistant Agricultural Officer (1000 Positions)

Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical advice to farmers and stakeholders in the cotton value chain, including: Educating farmers on cotton cultivation practices. Supervising and ensuring the quality of cotton from farm to storage. Monitoring adherence to good cotton farming practices.

Preparing and providing weekly agricultural reports. Coordinating input requirements and ensuring their delivery to farmers. Register farmers and stakeholders in the digital system. Assist in establishing demonstration farms and field schools.

Connect agricultural sector stakeholders with farmers to access their services. Manage the farmer record book. Assist in collecting, preparing, and processing production data using the Agricultural Routine Data System (ARDS). Participate in managing the digital extension service system.

Qualifications:

  • Tanzanian citizen with integrity, dedication, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Diploma in Agricultural Sciences or Crop Production from a government-recognized institution.
  • Not currently employed or dismissed from public service.
  • No criminal record.
  • Willing to work in various rural areas.
