The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) is a Parastatal Organization under the Ministry of Health, established by Act of Parliament No. 23 of 1979 (CAP. 59, R.E. 2002), and became operational in 1980. NIMR is seeking qualified, experienced, and motivated candidates for the following positions: Library Officer II, Library Assistant, and Driver II. The successful candidates will be stationed at NIMR Headquarters, NIMR Amani, and NIMR Tanga Centres.

1. Position: Library Officer (1 Post)

Reporting To: Head of Research Information and Regulatory Affairs (NIMR Headquarters)

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Library Studies, Librarianship, Library Information Studies, Documentation and Information Management, or an equivalent qualification from recognized institutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and instruct the use of books in the library and provide guidance in reading and research.
  • Coordinate the selection of books, newspapers, periodicals, etc.
  • Catalog and classify new arrivals as well as backlog materials.
  • Issue and recall borrowed books.
  • Coordinate the ordering and accessing of documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Terms of Service: One-year contract, renewable based on performance and mutual agreement.

Duty Station: NIMR Headquarters, Dar es Salaam

2. Position: Library Assistant (1 Post)

Reporting To: Centre Manager (NIMR Amani – Tanga)

Required Qualifications: Diploma in Library Studies, Librarianship, Library and Information Studies, Documentation and Information Management, or an equivalent qualification from recognized institutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the operation of the NIMR library.
  • Perform library clerical duties.
  • Carry out reader registration.
  • Provide general reading services such as issuing books, managing access to documentation, and offering photocopying and photographic services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Terms of Service: One-year contract, renewable based on performance and mutual agreement.

Duty Station: NIMR Amani Hill Research Station

3. Position: Driver II (2 Posts)

Reporting To: Centre Manager (NIMR Tanga)

Required Qualifications:

Secondary Education Certificate with two credit passes. Valid Driving License Class C or E. Completion of a one-year Basic Driving Course. Minimum of one-year driving experience with no accident record. Possession of Trade Test Grade II/Level II in Motor Vehicle Maintenance/Mechanics is an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Requisition fuel, refill vehicles, and maintain fuel logs.
  • Drive the Institute’s vehicles.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and safety of vehicles.
  • Maintain a vehicle logbook for all movements.
  • Initiate maintenance of vehicles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Compensation: Remuneration will be in accordance with NIMR scales and payment guidelines.
