The Secretary of the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat, on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions, invites job applications from qualified and capable Tanzanians to fill eighty (80) job positions as outlined in this announcement.

National Prosecution Office

The National Prosecution Office was established as an independent public office through Government Notice No. 49 dated February 13, 2018, to execute the constitutional authority given to the Director of Public Prosecutions to oversee criminal justice as per Article 59B of the 1977 Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania. Additionally, in carrying out his constitutional duties, the Director of Public Prosecutions will consider, among other things, administering justice, preventing the misuse of justice procedures, and overseeing public interest under Section 8 of the National Prosecution Act No. 27 of 2008.

STATE ATTORNEY GRADE II – 60 POSITIONS

Responsibilities

i. Conducting minor criminal cases
ii. Handling minor appeal cases in the High Court
iii. Preparing charge sheets, applications, and other related documents
iv. Receiving and addressing complaints against the National Prosecution Office
v. Managing witnesses before, during, and after giving testimony in court
vi. Reviewing files from investigative bodies
vii. Conducting research in the prosecution of criminal cases
viii. Collecting and analyzing criminal case statistics and preparing reports

Qualifications

Employed graduates with Form VI education and a Bachelor of Laws degree from recognized universities, Completed Practical Legal Training from the Institute of Legal Practice and Development

SALARY SCALE: AGCS. 3

Responsibilities

  • Receiving copies of court records concerning criminal cases
  • Keeping a diary of hearing dates, submitting various documents to the court and relevant parties
  • Following up on documents required in criminal cases
  • Opening case files as directed by the supervisor
  • Reviewing and preparing a list of files to be opened
  • Performing other related duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

  • Employed graduates with Form VI education and a Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized university

GENERAL CONDITIONS

All applicants must be Tanzanian citizens and not older than 45 years, except for those already in government service. Applicants with disabilities are encouraged to apply and must specify their disability in the job application system for the information of the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat. All applicants must attach a certified birth certificate by a lawyer/advocate. Applicants who are already public servants and have acquired qualifications to enter different cadres should have their application letters endorsed by their employers, and employers should be satisfied accordingly.

All applications should be accompanied by certified copies of academic certificates, descriptions, and documents from a lawyer/advocate, including birth certificates, Form IV, Form VI certificates, and various training completion certificates, considering the relevant job qualifications:

  • Postgraduate/Degree/Advanced Diploma/Diploma/Certificates
  • Form IV and VI examination certificates
  • Computer Certificate
  • Professional certificates from respective boards

Testimonials, Provisional Results, Statement of Results, Form IV, and Form VI result slips WILL NOT be accepted. Applicants who studied outside Tanzania should ensure their certificates are verified and approved by the relevant authorities (TCU, NECTA, and NACTE). Applicants who have retired from Public Service are not allowed to apply unless they have permission from the Chief Secretary.

Job applicants who are already employed in entry positions within Public Service should not apply and must adhere to the instructions in Circular No. CAC. 45/257/01/D/140 dated November 30, 2010. Submission of false information and qualifications will result in legal action. The deadline for submitting job applications is July 5, 2024.
