The Finance Volunteer receives direction and administrative supervision from the Finance Manager. The role involves assisting the Finance Department with functions such as data entry, scanning, filing, asset verification, and reconciliation, all administered according to Pathfinder and donor regulations and policies.
The volunteer strives for operational excellence, enabling Pathfinder to grow; evaluates, develops, and implements operational best practices in areas including data entry, scanning, filing, asset verification, and reconciliation. Building constructive and effective relationships with team members and clients is crucial, as is collaborating with other staff to support and coordinate departmental functions.
Major Activities / Responsibilities
Recording, Filing & Reconciliation
- Scan financial documents.
- Input transactions into the accounting system.
- Reconcile transactions posted into Sirenic.
- Assist in preparing monthly and end-of-project financial reports.
- File financial documents.
Asset Verifications: Conduct asset verifications.
Audit Support: Provide auditors with requested information.
Minimum Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience that yields the required competencies.
- Field experience through a university program.

Minimally Required Job-Specific Competencies
Advanced understanding of accounting and financial concepts and procedures for international non-profit organizations. The capacity to create a budget and mentor others in doing the same. Risk analysis and forecasting: Demonstrated capacity to pinpoint risk factors, formulate cost hypotheses, and project financial results.
Financial Reporting: The capacity to create and submit the necessary financial reports. Management and Supervision: Demonstrated capacity to mentor, guide, and oversee the work of subordinates. Systems and Tools: In-depth familiarity with accounting and financial software.
Planning and Management of Programs and Projects: Proficient in organizing and managing projects and programs to meet performance goals, including the prompt execution and reporting of activities supported by donors. Operations and Financial Management: In-depth understanding of project finance management and operations.
Minimally Required Organizational Competencies
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook software applications. Languages: Demonstrated proficiency in both writing and speaking English and Kiswahili. Communication and Persuasion abilities: Demonstrated capacity for persuasion via written and verbal communication, as well as good diplomatic abilities.
Passion for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Dedicated to gender, family planning, reproductive health care, and the elimination of harmful traditional behaviors, as well as maternal and child health services. Self-Management and Teamwork: The capacity to function both individually and collaboratively, flourish in a matrix organization, pay close attention to detail, and efficiently handle stress in a high-pressure setting.
