PATH, a leading global health organization, has announced 20 Research Assistant vacancies as part of its Diabetes CarePak Project. The project is now entering its Phase 3, focusing on a longitudinal, mixed-methods randomized control study to evaluate the health impact and cost-effectiveness of the Diabetes CarePak. This study will involve People Living with Diabetes (PLWD) across 16 districts in Tanzania:
- Mbeya Region: Mbarali DC, Chunya DC, Kyela DC, Mbeya DC (Mbalizi)
- Iringa Region: Mafinga DC, Iringa MC
- Songwe Region: Vwawa DC
- Mwanza Region: Kwimba DC, Misungwi DC
- Geita Region: Chato DC
- Mara Region: Tarime TC
- Simiyu Region: Maswa DC, Bariadi TC
- Tabora Region: Tabora MC
- Shinyanga Region: Shinyanga MC
- Ruvuma Region: Songea MC
This six-month study, scheduled to begin in July 2024, involves both intervention and control groups. Up to 500 PLWD will participate, with half receiving monthly CarePak kits (intervention arm) and the other half receiving standard care (control arm). Data collection will encompass qualitative and quantitative interviews, as well as quality-of-life assessments.
Job Responsibilities
Research Assistants will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the study. Key responsibilities include:
- Mastering study questionnaires, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and effective interviewing techniques.
- Conducting informed consent processes and interviews in English and Swahili, using tablet computers.
- Maintaining participant confidentiality and respecting study protocols.
- Uploading survey data daily and promptly reporting any technical issues.
- Translating and transcribing audio recordings for qualitative analysis.
- Collaborating with the PATH Study Coordinator and addressing scheduling challenges.
- Performing additional study-related tasks as needed.

Implementation Period
The selected candidates will work from January 2025 to February 2025.
Qualifications Required
Interested candidates should meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Diploma in nursing, clinical medicine, social work, statistics, or related fields.
- Prior experience with qualitative interviews and research data collection.
- Proficiency with mobile data collection tools such as Kobo Collect, ODK Collect, or Survey CTO.
- Fluency in Swahili and English with strong communication and organizational skills.
- A people-oriented approach with a friendly demeanor to foster rapport.
- Availability during training and data collection periods.
- Residency in the district applied for is mandatory.
