Swisscontact Tanzania is dedicated to advancing the socioeconomic integration of youth and young mothers in Tanzania. To achieve this, the organization is implementing two key projects: Skills for Employment Tanzania (SET) and EmpowerHER through Skills (EHS).

About the Projects

Skills for Employment Tanzania (SET)

SET is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) through the Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania. This project aims to enhance youth (self-)employment within the Vocational Skills Development (VSD) system. It supports the government and private sector stakeholders to expand access to quality training that meets the demands of both the economy and youth. Key components include:

  • Improving the relevance of labor market data for curriculum development.
  • Enhancing the quality of vocational teachers through continuing professional development.
  • Providing access to tailored, practical non-formal vocational training for youth, particularly women, including young mothers.

EmpowerHER through Skills (EHS)

EHS is funded by the IMS Foundation and builds upon the SET project. It provides VSD and entrepreneurship support, contributing to the creation of sustainable and meaningful livelihoods for young mothers. EHS collaborates closely with the private sector and local communities to offer innovative solutions and successfully tested methodologies. Key offerings include:

  • Market-responsive technical training.
  • Counseling support, life and soft skills, and coaching.
  • Entrepreneurship and access to finance support.
  • Special provisions for young mothers balancing professional activities with childcare.

Internship Opportunity: VSD Interns

Swisscontact is currently looking for 7 VSD interns to provide fresh graduates with on-the-job training opportunities through their involvement in the implementation of project activities. This initiative aims to empower graduates to become future professionals who will contribute to youth job creation. VSD interns will be based in the Morogoro region, with occasional travel to other locations within Tanzania.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the VSD Coordinators of the two projects, the VSD interns will:

  • Support the implementation of inclusive non-formal VSD interventions, including routine activities and monitoring of selected training providers.
  • Facilitate smooth implementation of non-formal VSD interventions in collaboration with project teams and partner organizations.
  • Support monitoring of implementation of non-formal VSD interventions.
  • Contribute to the revision of documents related to non-formal VSD interventions.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Participate in VSD and other project-related meetings.
  • Perform other tasks as agreed with the VSD coordinators.

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies

  • Technical capabilities and passion for empowering youth and young mothers to secure (self-)employment opportunities.
  • Field practical experience working with or empowering youth, young mothers, or youth living with disabilities during university studies.
