Tanzania National Museum (NMT)
The National Museum of Tanzania (NMT) was established under the National Museum Act No. 7 of 1980 as a scientific, educational, and cultural institution. Its primary roles include collecting, researching, preserving, conserving, and educating the public about Tanzania’s cultural and natural heritage.
NMT also disseminates knowledge to the public through exhibitions, publications, and various media platforms. Currently, NMT operates from its headquarters on Shaaban Robert Street, Dar es Salaam, with seven museum stations and several monuments across six zones in Tanzania.
MUSEUM ATTENDANT II – 3 POSTS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain cleanliness of exhibits and exhibition halls.
- Monitor visitor movement in the exhibition halls.
- Attend to visitors and provide guided tours when necessary.
- Ensure security of collections in exhibition halls.
- Assist in handling objects within exhibition halls.
- Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should hold a Secondary Education Certificate (CSEE) with passes in Kiswahili and English, plus a Certificate in Hospitality Management, Customer Service, Heritage Management, or Tour Guiding from a recognized institution.
SALARY SCALE: PGSS 2
CONSERVATOR II (MUSEUM CONSERVATION) – 2 POSTS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in determining the causes and extent of collection deterioration.
- Monitor and record environmental conditions in exhibition halls and storage areas.
- Participate in the restoration of damaged collections.
- Perform cleanliness of collections.
- Execute other tasks as assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, chemistry, heritage management, archaeology, anthropology, or paleontology from a recognized institution.
SALARY SCALE: PGSS 6
CONSERVATOR II (MONUMENTS AND SITES) – 2 POSTS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in field data collection and analysis under senior researchers.
- Submit technical reports and draft manuscripts for review.
- Train and supervise technicians.
- Help in research planning and preparing fundable proposals.
- Perform other related duties assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Architecture, or Heritage Management from a recognized institution.
SALARY SCALE: PGSS 6
CURATOR II (ZOOLOGY) – 1 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in acquiring and documenting museum collections.
- Aid in the conservation and evaluation of collections.
- Help in the preparation and execution of exhibitions.
- Participate in public education programs and stakeholder engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree in zoology, botany, or aquatic sciences from a recognized institution is required.

CURATOR II (HISTORY) – 2 POSTS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Aid in the collection, documentation, and conservation of historical collections.
- Assist in the preparation of exhibitions and educational programs.
- Engage with stakeholders and help in research activities.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in History from a recognized institution.

CURATOR II (EDUCATION) – 1 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in collecting and documenting educational materials.
- Participate in public education programs and exhibitions.
- Help in the preparation of reports and stakeholder engagement.
- Perform related duties assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a specialization in History.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT II (PARASTATAL RESEARCHER): 1 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in field data collection, analysis, and reporting under senior researchers.
- Help in drafting manuscripts and preparing research progress reports.
- Train technicians and assist in research planning.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from a recognized institution with a minimum Upper Second Class or B+ grade.
SALARY SCALE: PRSS 1
RESEARCH OFFICER II (ART AND DESIGN) – 1 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform data collection and analysis related to art and design.
- Assist in research activities, manuscript preparation, and project planning.
- Supervise technicians and draft research proposals.
- Execute other tasks assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must hold both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design from a recognized institution, with a minimum Upper Second Class or B+ grade.
SALARY SCALE: PRSS 2
RESEARCH OFFICER II (ARCHITECTURE) – 1 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct field data collection and analysis related to architecture.
- Assist in research, manuscript preparation, and supervision of technicians.
- Help in planning and executing research projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should have both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from a recognized institution, with a minimum Upper Second Class or B+ grade.

DUTIES AND Responsibilities
- Assist in identifying materials and performing maintenance related to plumbing systems.
- Help in assembling and installing water and sanitary systems.
- Support technicians in daily maintenance activities.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisors.
Quality and Experience:
Applicants must hold a Form IV/VI Certificate (CSEE/ACSEE) and a Trade Test Certificate in Plumbing from a recognized institution.
