Role purpose
The manager is responsible for overseeing all of the company’s tax affairs. He will be in charge of overseeing all tax compliance, making sure that taxes are paid on time, and lowering the chance that businesses would incur fines and interest owing to their failure to comply with Tanzania’s applicable tax rules. Additionally, he will ensure that tax returns are accurately completed and timely submitted to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Zanzibar Revenue Authority (ZRA), and other pertinent revenue authorities.
Along with advising management on all tax-related matters and new provisions imposed by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania that have an impact on tax-related matters, the manager will also need to put policies and procedures into place in order to manage the company’s tax position effectively at any given point during the month and annually. The management must establish positive working relationships with tax assessors, tax advisors, and external auditors from the Authorities (TRA & ZRA).
Key accountabilities:
- Motivate the tax function to automate different tax operations.
- Create and manage the financial models that are used to calculate and pay taxes. Put policies in place to control the possibility of fines and interest resulting from noncompliance.
- Create, evaluate, and put into practice tax management guidelines.
- Examine all tax computations, payments, and returns.
- Oversee connections with tax advisors, tax attorneys, and TRA
- Perform the monthly excise duty and VAT turnover reconciliation.
- Execute the Balance Sheet reconciliation according to the specified dates and requirements
- Oversee the timely filing of tax reports and monthly group schedules.
- Monthly accounting for taxes (including deferred tax accounting and current tax provisioning)
- Advocate for personnel actions, including hiring, promoting, disciplining, and training new hires.

Professional Qualifications, Core Competencies, Knowledge And Experience
- five years minimum of experience in a tax and financial function
- a recent graduate from college or university with a degree in business administration, accounting, or finance
- A CPA (T), ACCA, or particular tax qualification will be beneficial.
- Experience in the telecommunications sector is beneficial
- comprehensive knowledge of the tax function theory
- strong computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Excel
